Mariakerk in Vught, I created a series of ink paintings on mulberry paper centred around the koi. The church became an important source of inspiration. Its soaring vaults, stained-glass windows and contemplative atmosphere transformed the space into an imagined underwater world in which the fish could move freely. Across many cultures and religions, the fish is a powerful symbol of transformation, abundance, freedom and the search for unity. I was also inspired by the symbolism of the zodiac sign Pisces, in which two fish swim in opposite directions. In these paintings, their movement reflects a search for balance between the earthly and the spiritual.Koi NL Voor de tentoonstelling Achter de Façade (2024) in de Mariakerk in Vught maakte ik een serie inktschilderingen op moerbeipapier waarin de koi centraal stond. De kerk vormde een bijzondere inspiratiebron. Met haar hoge gewelven, glas-in-loodramen en verstilde sfeer leek zij te veranderen in een onderwaterwereld waarin de vissen vrij konden bewegen. De vis is in veel culturen en religies een krachtig symbool van onder meer transformatie, overvloed, vrijheid en de zoektocht naar eenheid. Daarnaast inspireerde mij de symboliek van het sterrenbeeld Vissen, waarin twee vissen tegengesteld bewegen. During the summer closure of Willem Twee Kunstruimte, I was fortunate to use the exhibition space as a temporary studio for two weeks. A wonderful opportunity to work on a larger scale and further develop my skyscapes in ink and watercolour. The Cloud takes its starting point from the poem of the same name by P.B. Shelley, in which nature is in a constant state of transformation, between appearing and disappearing. At this stage, I am exploring movement, evaporation, water and air – and how the landscape of Ameland, the salt marshes and the Wadden Sea gradually finds its way into the work. With many thanks to Willem Twee Kunstruimte for their hospitality and for giving me the space to work. NL Een fase in de ontwikkeling van The Cloud, mijn project voor Kunstmaand Ameland 2026. Tijdens de zomersluiting van de Willem Twee Kunstruimte mocht ik twee weken gebruikmaken van de Kunstruimte als tijdelijke werkplaats. Een bijzondere gelegenheid om op grotere schaal te werken en mijn skyscapes in inkt en aquarel verder te ontwikkelen. The Cloud vindt zijn oorsprong in het gelijknamige gedicht van P.B. Shelley, waarin de natuur voortdurend transformeert tussen verschijnen en verdwijnen. In deze fase onderzoek ik beweging, verdamping, water en lucht – en hoe het landschap van Ameland, de kwelders en het wad daarin steeds meer een plek krijgt. Amelandinspiration &amp; susan’s photography&nbsp; In nature, Reijnders encounters a primal force — something that nourishes, consoles, and sharpens the senses. Through sustained observation, drawing, and painting, her attention settles on a single element: the cloud. This series emerged from encounters with clouds on the island of Ameland, where sea, sky, wind, and light are in constant motion. Clouds become fleeting presences — metaphors for the passing of time and for the fragile nature of what we perceive as certain. Across the works, light shifts from gold to blue, from the last warmth of the evening sun to the stillness of moonlight. The cloud appears as breath, as a momentary presence, as a vessel for memory and silence. x 2023 alabaster coast inspiration: normandy franceThe Alabaster Coast — NormandyIn 2023, I spent ten days as an Artist in Residence at Le Bois-Robert, near Dieppe. The chalk cliffs, moss-covered rocks, expansive beaches and distinctive light along the Normandy coast inspired a new series of paintings. During my stay, I worked on the beaches of Pourville-sur-Mer, Veules-les-Roses and Dieppe, where I drew, observed and made the first studies for the series. Back in the Netherlands, I continued developing the work during a working period in the large exhibition space at Willem Twee in ’s-Hertogenbosch. In these paintings, I explore the power and constant transformation of the coastal landscape and the interplay between rock, water and light. De krijtrotsen, met mos begroeide rotsblokken, uitgestrekte stranden en het bijzondere licht langs de Normandische kust vormden de inspiratie voor een nieuwe serie schilderijen. photography&nbsp;The sea and especially the phenomenon of high tide and low tide, have fascinated many poets and writers in the past, varying from Sophocles on the Aegean to Matthew Arnold on Dover Beach.&nbsp; There is one particular aspect connected with ebb and flow that has fascinated myself and has become a source of inspiration for my art of ink painting in the past few years: the outgoing tide leaves wonderful small pools, full of lively creatures and colours, on the beaches, which disappear altogether again as soon as the tide comes in. This exciting phenomenon reminds me of our own lives and relatively short existence on earth; it inspires me to fully enjoy all the wonderful and colourful aspects that life may have in store for us valt af te leiden dat de natuur, vaak op meerdere niveaus, een continu inspirerende bron is waaruit ze bij herhaling put: “In generale zin is de natuur, mede door mijn zintuiglijke ontvankelijkheid, een resonerend mer à boire. In Portugal heb ik in 2016 bij hoge temperaturen, nadat de zee zich had teruggetrokken, achtergebleven stroken zout op het qua coloriet telkens subtiel veranderend land in inkt uitgebeeld. Op een zeker ogenblik heb ik - in situ - een vrijwel abstract werk van 70 bij 240 centimeter kunnen maken. Die aus einem Guß gemaakte compositie heb ik cadeau gekregen van dat bikkelharde, weerbarstige, in zon gedrenkte land. Die onverwachte gift heeft me kracht gegeven om met enige regelmaat voorstellings-loos werk te maken. Ook in 2021 heb ik weer abstracte inktschilderingen gemaakt.”
